BBC Sport journalist Sami Mokbel confirmed that Manchester United, Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Everton have all sounded out Williams' camp to understand his position, with Forest responding by beginning formal discussions over a new and improved deal.
Williams, 25, joined Nottingham Forest from Liverpool for ยฃ12 million in 2022 after spending 15 years at Anfield's academy and senior setup. He has been a consistent performer at the City Ground, making 51 appearances this season โ many of them on the left flank despite being right-footed by nature โ and captained the side on occasions during a campaign that ended with Forest's elimination from the Europa League at the semi-final stage by Aston Villa.
His contract runs until June 2029, giving Forest significant leverage. The club have no desire to sell but are alert to the competitive landscape around him and view a new deal as the clearest statement of intent.
United's interest is driven by concerns over Luke Shaw's availability. The left-back has struggled with injuries throughout his Old Trafford career and United want depth and long-term cover in the position as they prepare for their first Champions League campaign in three years. The same logic applies for Newcastle, who lack a settled left-sided option following their own recruitment difficulties.
Aston Villa need cover for Lucas Digne, who has not started regularly this season. For Everton, Williams represents a natural right-back upgrade โ he has mostly played on the left for Forest but is more comfortable on the right.
Williams' journey from Liverpool academy product to one of the Premier League's most coveted full-backs has been one of the more quietly satisfying stories of the last three seasons. Forest will do everything they can to ensure the next chapter is still written at the City Ground.
