Phil Foden produced two moments of genuine quality to help Manchester City move to within two points of Premier League leaders Arsenal, and the midfielder could not hide his delight at being back to something close to his best.

Foden's first contribution came in the 32nd minute, a no-look back-heel through ball that split Crystal Palace's defence and released Antoine Semenyo to finish calmly. Eight minutes later, a deft chest-and-flick set up Omar Marmoush to make it two before the break. They were Foden's second and third goal contributions since mid-December, across 17 Premier League appearances.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the final whistle, Foden reflected on a half-season that has tested his patience.

"I would say I had a good half season, the first half, and dropped off a bit then struggled to find my place in the team. It happens when you have quality players around you and they are more at it than you, so I've had to wait and be patient, train as hard as I can, and when you get your moment you have to take it."

On the first goal, he described the vision behind the pass.

"I checked a few times before receiving the ball and I saw Ant make a good movement. It is one of those, sometimes it doesn't come off. Sometimes a risk is worth taking and I'm very delighted it came off and we scored from it. Buzzing to contribute to a goal and help the lads get three points which is the most important."

With the title race entering its final stretch, Foden was measured about what City can realistically control.

"It's a team game at the end of the day, if you want to win titles and trophies it's about a full squad and everyone playing their part."

"The aim is to keep pushing and keep them on their toes. We've seen a lot of things can happen on the final day. I've experienced it many times when the game doesn't go your way. We just have to keep pushing and doing our part."

City now sit two points behind Arsenal, with goal difference in their favour at +43 to the Gunners' +42. If Arsenal win their remaining two games they are champions. City's next task is Saturday's FA Cup final against Chelsea.
