The deal is not yet official — Barcelona intend to announce it formally once the season concludes — but Flick was openly satisfied with the agreement and clear about what it commits him to.
"I'm very happy and what we have achieved gives me confidence to continue for one or two more years. Many coaches would be happy to be here three or four years, but I think at Barça it's better to limit it. For now, I have until 2028, and if everything goes well, we'll extend it further. It's been a good agreement for both parties."
He reflected on why Barcelona feels like the right environment for him personally.
"I've seen that I'm in the right place. We are committed to reaching the highest level and achieving new titles. Everyone has the dream of the Champions League. We have tried for it and we will keep trying. I am grateful for the trust they have placed in me to continue here."
Flick has won five trophies in his two seasons at the club — two La Liga titles, two Spanish Super Cups and the Copa del Rey.
His previous contract ran until June 2027. The new agreement through 2028, with the optional extension, represents the club's commitment to a project that has delivered back-to-back La Liga titles and reached the Champions League semi-final this season before losing to Paris Saint-Germain.
He had previously indicated privately that if he did not remain at Barcelona, he would step away from coaching entirely — a statement that gives some sense of how much the project means to him.
