Fiorentina and Atalanta sound out Sevilla over Juanlu as Serie A clubs circle

Fiorentina and Atalanta have made initial enquiries to Sevilla about the conditions for a transfer of right-back Juanlu Sánchez, according to journalist Matteo Moretto.

Sevilla need to generate significant funds and Juanlu, who graduated from the club's academy, has attracted attention from Italy before.

Napoli attempted to sign him last summer, with sporting director Giovanni Manna travelling to Seville for talks with club executives, and made a further approach in January, offering either a swap or a loan with a purchase option. Neither move materialised.

With the arrival of Juan Iglesias, head coach Luis García Plaza now has three right-backs on his books — Juanlu, José Ángel Carmona, and the new signing — creating pressure to move one on. Juanlu remains the most valuable of the three and the most likely to generate a significant fee.

Any deal for Juanlu would come as part of a broader active summer for Sevilla. The Akor Adams situation — with the club holding out for more than €20m while Venezia have offered just over €10m — is the other major piece of outgoing business the club are trying to move on. Serie A interest could provide the financial injection Nervión needs.

Fiorentina and Atalanta represent serious suitors rather than tentative interest. Both clubs are established in European competition and would offer Juanlu a step up from his current situation at a Sevilla side under financial pressure and currently undergoing a coaching transition. Whether the Andalusian club's valuation can be met by either Italian side will be the central question as negotiations develop.

For Juanlu, the timing may be right. He has been at Sevilla his entire career and has demonstrated his quality consistently enough to attract repeat interest from clubs at the top of the Italian game. A move this summer, while his value is high and his playing time at Sevilla increasingly uncertain, makes sporting sense.
