Sevilla are locked in a standoff with Venezia over the asking price for striker Akor Adams, with the Nigerian forward identified as a priority target for the newly promoted Serie A side but a €10m gap between the clubs threatening to derail the deal.

The Andalusian club are under serious financial pressure, needing a major sale before June 30 — four days away — to balance their accounts for the current season, with a change of ownership still not confirmed and the transfer window opening next week.

Adams, 26, scored 10 goals in 32 La Liga appearances last season — his first full campaign at the club following a serious injury sustained shortly after his mid-season arrival in January 2025. The return has attracted attention from Venezia, who want a striker capable of helping them survive in Serie A after winning promotion.

According to Diario AS, Venezia have tabled an offer of just over €10m, while Sevilla are holding out for €20m — a figure Venezia are not prepared to reach. The standoff leaves both clubs in an uncomfortable position, with Sevilla needing the money quickly and Venezia unwilling to pay a premium for a player with one strong season in La Liga.

The urgency of Sevilla's financial position may yet force their hand, but the club will be reluctant to lose a striker of Adams' calibre for half their stated valuation. How quickly the situation moves will depend on whether another club enters the picture to drive up competition for his signature.

Sevilla's situation is a reminder of the financial constraints facing several La Liga clubs in the current market. For Adams, whose first full season demonstrated he belongs at this level, the outcome of the standoff will shape where he plays his football next — and whether he gets to build on a promising start to life in Spain.
