The Portuguese captain spoke to Sky Sports ahead of Sunday's Premier League meeting with Liverpool, one of the moments in the season where he has consistently delivered.
His 19 assists this season already represent his highest single-season total by seven, leaving him one short of the all-time Premier League record of 20 shared by Thierry Henry for Arsenal in 2002/03 and Kevin De Bruyne for Manchester City in 2019/20.
Fernandes was asked directly about the temptation to leave, having turned down a move to Saudi Arabia last summer following a season in which United finished 15th and lost the Europa League final.
"I could have left two years ago, I could have left three years ago, I could have left last season, but I really like being here."
He framed his decision to stay in terms of unfinished business rather than loyalty alone.
"The club was in a tough moment because we just lost a European final and finished the lowest in the Premier League United has ever done. Six years ago, the club trusted me to come here and believed I could help the club. At the time, my decision was made by the fact that I haven't fulfilled my dreams here. I haven't achieved everything I wanted. I've never hidden that I want to win the Premier League and the Champions League with the club."
On what being successful at United would mean compared to anywhere else, Fernandes was unequivocal.
"I think being successful at this club is something I could never get at any other club. The joy and everything I get โ the day I get what I want from this club, I don't think I'll get that from any other club in the world."
The statistics behind his season are extraordinary. Fernandes' 19 assists are nearly double those of his nearest rival, with Manchester City's Rayan Cherki and West Ham United's Jarrod Bowen next on 10. He has created 114 chances this season โ more than twice as many as the next players on the list โ and leads the top-five European leagues for expected assists per 90 minutes since Michael Carrick's appointment in January.
United face Liverpool on Sunday with a win potentially clinching Champions League qualification.
