Michael Emenalo's spell with the Saudi Pro League has come to an end.

The Nigerian executive is leaving his role as Chief Football Executive at the conclusion of his contract, following three years working within the Saudi league.

The Saudi Pro League confirmed the news in an official statement announcing the termination of the contract with Emenalo, described as the head of the league's football sector.

The league extended what it called sincere thanks and appreciation to Emenalo for his commitment during his tenure, and wished him success in his future projects.

Emenalo joined the Saudi league in the summer of 2023, at the height of the financial and media explosion that became known as SPL 2.0. During his time there, the former Chelsea director held several roles within the league's structure, proving particularly influential in the launch and implementation of the Player Acquisition Centre of Excellence, known as PACE.

The programme was dedicated to recruitment and the management of international transfers for Saudi clubs. Emenalo's contribution also extended to providing direct support to clubs, both administratively and financially, during his time with the league.

Before his move to Saudi Arabia, Emenalo had built a solid reputation in Europe as a sporting executive. Between 2011 and 2017, he served as technical director at Chelsea, a period during which the Blues won the Premier League title twice, the FA Cup and the Champions League.

He later moved to Monaco as sporting director in November 2017, leaving the French club by mutual consent in 2019 before eventually taking up his role with the Saudi Pro League in 2023.

Emenalo's departure closes a significant chapter in the development of the Saudi Pro League's transfer strategy, with the PACE programme having played a central part in the league's recruitment drive since its introduction.

It remains to be seen who the Saudi Pro League will turn to as a replacement for the outgoing executive.
