George Pickford has joined AFC Fylde on a short-term loan as the Everton Under-21s goalkeeper takes another step in his development through senior football.

The 19-year-old moves to the National League club after spending part of last season with Southport. That spell marked his first loan away from Everton, where he has progressed through the academy since joining at the age of 11.

Pickford made six appearances for Southport, gaining experience in senior football in the National League North. He kept a clean sheet in his second appearance, against Hereford, and returned to Everton having taken his first steps outside the club’s youth teams.

An England Under-20 international, Pickford has been a regular for Everton’s Under-21s. He made 14 appearances in Premier League 2 during the 2025/26 campaign and has continued to feature across several competitions this season.

He has played six times so far in 2026/27, with those appearances spread across Premier League 2, the EFL Trophy, the National League Cup and the Premier League International Cup.

His recent performances have included an important contribution in Everton Under-21s’ meeting with Boreham Wood. Pickford saved a penalty from Charlie O’Connell as the young Toffees secured a 5-3 shootout victory.

The timing of that performance is notable, with Boreham Wood due to face Fylde the day after the goalkeeper’s loan move was announced. Pickford will now be working with his new team-mates as he looks to make an impression at senior level.

The move offers Fylde another goalkeeping option while giving the Everton youngster the chance to build on the experience gained during his previous spell at Southport.

Pickford has already progressed through Everton’s academy from the age of 11, earning international recognition with England and establishing himself in the Under-21 side. His latest loan is another opportunity to translate that development into regular senior football.
