The winger was loaned out to FC Basel during the past winter, scoring two goals and providing one assist in 16 competitive matches during the spring.
Borussia Dortmund have now confirmed on their official website that the offensive winger has been sold to Olympique Lyon. The French club have confirmed on their own website that the fee comes to β¬5million, plus a further β¬3.5million in add-ons.
Dortmund have also secured a resale clause worth a maximum of 20 per cent of any future transfer fee. Duranville has signed a contract with Lyon that runs until the summer of 2031.
"I am very happy to join OL. I had many discussions with the management before signing," he said. "I felt immediately very positive and quickly saw myself at this club.
"I would like to draw inspiration from another Belgian, Malick Fofana, or Rayan Cherki, whom I admire a lot.
"I can play on both wings, but I will mainly play according to the coach's and my team-mates' needs."
The 20-year-old has managed one goal and one assist in 27 competitive matches for Dortmund since his move from Anderlecht.
Duranville was regarded as one of the most exciting young talents to emerge from the Anderlecht academy before his switch to the Bundesliga.
His time in Germany was disrupted by a series of injuries, including a thigh problem that ruled him out for much of the 2023-24 season and a dislocated shoulder sustained in a FIFA Club World Cup quarter-final against Real Madrid last year.
He did earn his senior debut for Belgium during his time at Dortmund, appearing in a 3-1 win over Israel in September 2024.
His loan spell at Basel over the winter offered a chance to rebuild momentum, and Lyon will now be hoping the move to Ligue 1 provides the platform for him to fulfil the potential that first attracted Dortmund's interest.
The transfer represents a fresh start for a player once tipped for a bright future in the Bundesliga, with Lyon securing a long-term contract that ties him to the club for the next five seasons.
