Dumfries release clause draws Premier League interest as Inter Milan push for renewal

Share

Denzel Dumfries has emerged as one of the summer's most attractive transfer targets following revelations of a €25 million release clause in his Inter Milan contract, with clubs from the Premier League, La Liga and Bayern Munich all monitoring.

The clause, which applies only to foreign clubs and is active throughout July, has made Dumfries an unusually affordable option given his quality and standing in Inter's title-winning squad. Liverpool explored a loan in January after losing Conor Bradley to injury but were rebuffed, with Dumfries still recovering from ankle surgery at the time. Newcastle United and Manchester United are also understood to be interested.

Inter are aware of the threat and have begun drafting a contract renewal offer, understood to be worth around €5 million per season until 2029, with the explicit aim of removing the clause entirely before the window opens.

Dumfries is contracted until 2028 and the club would rather extend and protect his value than risk losing him at a fraction of his market worth.

The 30-year-old has been one of Inter's most important players since returning from a lengthy injury absence earlier in the year, and his form during the club's Serie A title run-in has only sharpened interest from abroad.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, his agent is actively exploring options and the player's situation is one of the key subplots of the summer window.

Inter are on course to win the Scudetto and have also secured Champions League qualification, which strengthens their case for keeping Dumfries. Whether that is enough to hold off the level of interest his release clause has generated remains to be seen.
