Deportivo La Coruna have won the race for Bayern Munich attacking midfielder Jonathan Asp Jensen, with the Bundesliga giants giving their blessing to a permanent move to Spain after growing frustrated with Lazio's preferred deal structure.

According to Matteo Moretto, Bayern Munich and Deportivo La Coruna have reached an agreement in principle, and Bild reports that the 20-year-old Dane has now made up his mind to join the newly promoted La Liga side.

The move represents a reversal of fortune for Lazio, who appeared to have the inside track for much of the past week after striking personal terms with the player. The Italian club offered Bayern a loan with an option, or obligation, to buy worth around โ‚ฌ6million, an arrangement the Bavarians ultimately decided was not sufficient for a player they wanted to sell outright.

Bayern's insistence on an immediate permanent sale rather than a loan-based structure opened the door for Deportivo, who moved to offer more regular game time than Lazio had been prepared to guarantee, a factor that appears to have proven decisive for a player still building his case for regular senior football.

Asp Jensen joined Bayern from Midtjylland in 2022 and has progressed through the club's youth ranks, most recently spending last season on loan at Grasshopper Zurich in Switzerland, where he made 40 appearances in all competitions and established himself as a regular starter.

With interest also previously registered from clubs in the Bundesliga and France, Bayern's decision to prioritise Deportivo's offer suggests the Spanish club were ultimately the only side willing to meet the Bavarians' financial demands for a permanent departure.

Udinese had also expressed interest in a straight transfer for around โ‚ฌ5million, but it is Deportivo who now appear to have edged ahead in a transfer saga that had looked to be heading in Lazio's direction as recently as this week.

Asp Jensen's current Bayern contract runs until 2028, giving the club a position of some strength in negotiations regardless of which suitor ultimately wins out, and it remains to be seen whether Bayern will insist on a sell-on clause or buy-back option as part of any deal with Deportivo, safeguards the club has often built into sales of its academy graduates in recent years.
