Davies not looking for Bayern exit despite Saudi interest

Bayern Munich

Clubs from Saudi Arabia have recently made enquiries about Alphonso Davies, and Bayern Munich would be willing to sell the left-back for the right offer following their €55m signing of Nathaniel Brown.

However, the Canadian international has other plans for his future. According to the Abendzeitung, "a departure is not an issue for Davies," with the 25-year-old determined to stay in Munich and fight for his starting spot despite the arrival of fresh competition.

Bayern Munich's decision to spend big on Brown, a Germany international arriving from Eintracht Frankfurt, has inevitably raised questions about Davies' long-term role at the club, particularly given his history of fitness problems in recent seasons.

Reports in Germany have suggested the club would not stand in his way should a suitable offer materialise, but Davies himself is said to have no intention of walking away from a position he has held since establishing himself as one of Bayern's key players.

Davies' resolve to stay and compete is made easier by the extension he and his representatives agreed with Bayern at the start of 2025. That deal delivered the left-back a significant signing bonus alongside an annual salary of €15m plus add-ons, underlining the scale of Bayern's continued investment in him even as they add reinforcements elsewhere in defence.

The competition for the left-back berth is likely to be one of the more closely watched subplots of Bayern's pre-season as Davies and Brown prepare to train together for the first time. Both possess considerable attacking qualities going forward, and head coach Vincent Kompany will have a genuine selection headache on the left flank once the new campaign gets underway, with Davies' fitness likely to be the deciding factor in who ultimately wins out.

Davies has endured a difficult run of injuries over the past two seasons, and Bayern's willingness to invest so heavily in a direct positional rival underlines how seriously the club are treating the need for greater depth in that area of the pitch, even as they publicly back their long-standing first-choice option to remain and prove his fitness once again.
