Former Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Dave Jones has delivered a brutal verdict on the club’s season — insisting their problems run far deeper than results, even amid signs of improvement.

Speaking to Football Presse, Jones did not hold back in his assessment of the issues at Molineux.

“No, they won’t survive. It’s not good football they’re playing,” he said.

Wolves endured one of the worst starts in Premier League history, leaving them anchored near the bottom of the table and facing a huge uphill battle to avoid relegation. While recent performances have shown some fight, the gap to safety remains a major concern.

Jones believes the root of the problem lies not with ownership, but with recruitment and long-term planning.

“Everybody always blames the owners,” he said. “But they need to look at recruitment. They knew they were going to lose players.

“They buy cheap and sell big, so they should have good recruitment.”

The club’s model — developing talent before selling at a profit — has come under scrutiny this season, particularly as replacements have failed to deliver at the required level.

Jones also spoke about Rob Edwards, a former player he signed during his time at Wolves, who has taken on a difficult challenge in the dugout.

“It’s a big decision Rob has made,” Jones said. “Maybe he’s let his heart rule his head.

“He knew what he was going into. It was a big task — and it hasn’t worked out at the moment.”

Despite some recent improvement, Jones’ overall view remains unchanged: deeper structural issues have left Wolves vulnerable.

“They have to look at recruitment,” he reiterated. “That’s where the problems start.”

With time running out, Wolves’ promotion hopes next season will depend not just on form — but on whether those underlying issues can be addressed quickly enough.
