Binks made his international breakthrough in late September, earning his first Scotland cap before completing the full 90 minutes in the following two matches. His performances have attracted attention in England, where he previously worked under Lampard at Coventry.
The Coventry City manager, speaking to The Herald, expressed his admiration for the 25-year-old and explained why the defender left the English club in the summer of 2025.
“I have great respect for Luis, both on and off the pitch.
“He is a really good player, and the only reason he moved on was that, at the time, we had stability in central defence with players who played in his position.”
Binks made 48 appearances for Coventry before moving to Denmark to join Brondby. The switch offered him the opportunity to secure more regular football while experiencing a different country, culture and league.
Lampard said he understood the defender's decision to seek a fresh challenge rather than remain in England and wait for opportunities to emerge.
“I respected that he wanted regular playing time. I also respected that the easy option would have been to stay in England, but he wanted to try something new in another country, another culture and another league.
“He is still very popular in the Coventry dressing room. He has many friends at the club.
“That is why I am very happy to see him doing well,” Lampard said.
The praise comes at an important moment in Binks' career. His Scotland debut has rewarded his decision to move abroad, while his status as Brondby's captain underlines the responsibility he has assumed since arriving in Denmark.
The defender is contracted to the Danish club until the summer of 2030, giving Brondby a long-term commitment from a player who has become an important figure in their squad.
His international breakthrough also provides further recognition of the progress he has made since leaving Coventry. For Lampard, however, the defender's development is no surprise: he had already seen Binks' qualities at close quarters and understood his desire to play regularly.
With Scotland now part of his career, Binks will hope to build on his first appearances and maintain the form that has earned him recognition from his former manager.
