Como are the frontrunners to sign Mattia Liberali from Catanzaro, with the attacking midfielder available for €6m under a release clause that has attracted a growing number of Serie A clubs including Juventus, Fiorentina, Torino, Bologna and Sassuolo.

Liberali is currently representing Italy at the Under-19 European Championship and has established himself as one of the most sought-after young talents in Italian football after an impressive season in Calabria. His contract with Catanzaro runs until June 2029.

TuttoJuve reports Como have moved with the most conviction, with the club viewing Liberali as an ideal fit for Cesc Fàbregas's project despite the significant financial commitment already made to sign Nico Paz this summer. The player's youth, technical quality and development potential make him a compelling target in the club's image.

AC Milan will benefit from any transfer, having retained a 50 per cent sell-on clause when they sold Liberali to Catanzaro in the summer of 2025. The forward came through Milan's academy and was handed his first-team debut by Paulo Fonseca before choosing Catanzaro to secure regular playing time.

"I saw that Catanzaro was placing great emphasis on young players, and the manager Aquilani and director Polito really wanted me," Liberali said previously. "I understood it was the right choice."

Juventus are monitoring the situation through new CEO Giovanni Carnevali and have not ruled out acquiring the player's registration with a view to loaning him back to Serie A — potentially to Sassuolo, where Aquilani is now in charge. Fiorentina have inserted themselves into contention in recent days.

The release clause makes Liberali accessible to a wide range of clubs, which explains the breadth of interest. At €6m, the cost is manageable for clubs at every level of Serie A, and the competition is likely to intensify as pre-season approaches.

Como's early and decisive movement gives them an advantage, but Juventus's financial weight and the strategic angle of a loan back to a Sassuolo managed by Alberto Aquilani — who worked with Liberali at Catanzaro and knows him well — could prove compelling if the Turin club decide to escalate their involvement.
