With most of Chelsea's incoming business for the summer already wrapped up, attention at Stamford Bridge has turned firmly to trimming a bloated squad before the deadline.
Alonso wants his players competing for regular minutes rather than sitting unhappily on the fringes, and with the club also targeting a return to European competition, getting outgoings sorted is seen as essential to squad harmony as much as the finances.
The centre-back department is facing the heaviest clear-out. Trevoh Chalobah, a Cobham academy graduate with 151 first-team appearances to his name, has all but completed a €30m move to Cesc Fàbregas's Como, while Benoît Badiashile is closing in on a loan-to-buy switch to Napoli worth around €2.8m a year once converted into a permanent deal in 2031.
Axel Disasi, who impressed on loan at West Ham last season, is expected to join Crystal Palace, likely as cover following Maxence Lacroix's departure to the same club. Tosin Adarabioyo, Chelsea's most experienced player last season but underwhelming since arriving on a free transfer from Fulham, is another surplus to requirements, with Alonso wanting four or five centre-backs rather than the current glut.
Among the forwards, Nicolas Jackson (£65m asking price) and Liam Delap, who has drawn interest from Nottingham Forest, Everton, Leeds and Newcastle, are both being made available, while David Datro Fofana remains stuck at the club years after Chelsea first tried to move him on, and Marc Guiu, subject to a bizarre saga last year when he was recalled from a loan at Sunderland, looks likely to depart permanently given the club's younger striking options.
In midfield, Enzo Fernández's future remains unresolved after Real Madrid publicly rejected the idea of signing him this summer, leaving the Argentine in limbo with Chelsea demanding £120m and no serious suitors in place, while Romeo Lavia, yet to complete 90 minutes for the club, has been linked with Monaco but continues to be hampered by his injury record.
Malo Gusto, with Marco Palestra's arrival adding further competition at right-back, has been the subject of a reported £75m valuation amid interest from PSG. Pedro Neto, arguably Chelsea's best winger last season, is not being pushed out the door, but Manchester City's interest means a £70m departure remains possible. Wesley Fofana may end up staying simply because Chelsea have too many other defenders to offload first.
Filip Jørgensen has left and Gaga Slonina looks set to continue his career away from Stamford Bridge, with Jørgensen joining sister club Strasbourg and Slonina, who has been training alongside him, also drawing interest from elsewhere in Europe.
Mykhailo Mudryk's situation is more delicate following his shock return from a doping ban: an immediate permanent sale looks unlikely, with a gradual reintegration or a loan to a Premier League rival or Strasbourg seen as more probable outcomes.
On the loan front, several academy graduates are expected to head out for regular football, including Aaron Anselmino, whose promising spell at Borussia Dortmund was cut short last season, Josh Acheampong, who has barely featured in pre-season, Omari Kellyman, who could return to Cardiff after a successful loan there, and Shim Mheuka and Ryan Kavuma-McQueen, both tipped for EFL moves after strong Under-21 form.
Reggie Walsh, once seen as a favourite of former manager Enzo Maresca, is drawing interest from several Championship clubs. Denner Evangelista, only recently signed on a seven-year deal, and Ishe Samuels-Smith, whose short-lived permanent move to Strasbourg was undone within 33 days last year, could also both be loaned out, while 17-year-old triallist Dastan Satpayev remains an outside chance to stay and provide back-up minutes despite already boasting Champions League experience.
