Borussia Dortmund teenager Mathis Albert is reportedly frustrated by his limited first-team opportunities, with Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Manchester City among his admirers.

Albert’s future at Borussia Dortmund is becoming a subject of growing interest, with the 17-year-old reportedly eager for more first-team opportunities after making only limited progress into senior football.

According to Sky Sports Germany, several clubs are monitoring the American youngster, who has made two senior appearances for Dortmund. The report says Albert wants regular playing time and is disappointed by the lack of opportunities available to him under Niko Kovač.

Albert joined Dortmund in 2024 after coming through the youth system at Los Angeles Galaxy, where he had played above his age group. The club initially developed him in its youth teams, but his progress soon brought opportunities to train and travel with the senior squad.

He was included in Dortmund’s squad for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup without making an appearance. His senior debut followed on 21 April 2026, when he came on late in a Bundesliga match. He later made his first start in the German Cup on 1 September, but regular involvement has remained elusive.

The teenager’s international career has moved more quickly. Born to a French father and a German-American mother, Albert chose to represent the United States and has been called up by head coach Mauricio Pochettino. Sky reports that he has already collected four senior international caps, more appearances than he has made for Dortmund’s first team.

That contrast has sharpened the question of how quickly his club career can progress. Albert was left on the bench for Dortmund’s recent Champions League match against Bodø/Glimt, another setback for a player hoping to establish himself among the senior ranks.

Interest from abroad is not new. Sky Sports Germany reports that Paris Saint-Germain approached Dortmund about Albert in 2025, but the German club rejected the approach. Chelsea and Manchester City have also been linked with the youngster, with reported interest becoming more concrete during 2026.

The report says offers in the region of €15 million to €20 million were possible, although Dortmund were not willing to part with the player. Transfermarkt values Albert at around €5 million, but that figure is an estimate rather than an indication of what a buying club would have to pay.

Dortmund now face a balancing act: protecting a highly rated prospect while giving him a route towards senior football. Albert’s contract is due to expire in 2027, adding urgency to discussions over his longer-term future.

The club will hope to keep him and agree an extension, but the player’s desire for minutes may become increasingly important if a clear pathway to regular football does not emerge. For now, no departure has been confirmed, and Dortmund retain control of a talent several major European clubs are watching.
