Borussia Dortmund set deadline for Felix Nmecha's €80m release clause

Borussia Dortmund have reportedly built a strict timetable into Felix Nmecha’s contract, with clubs interested in signing the midfielder required to activate his €80 million release clause before the end of June 2027.

According to Sport Bild, the clause would allow an interested club to sign the Germany international for the fixed fee during that period. Once the deadline passes, Dortmund would regain control over negotiations and could demand a substantially higher amount.

The club are reportedly likely to seek around €100 million if they negotiate a transfer after the clause expires, giving them greater control over the midfielder’s future.

The arrangement is designed to provide Dortmund with clarity ahead of the summer transfer window. If a club activates the clause before the deadline, the Bundesliga side would have limited scope to prevent the move, but an expired clause would allow them to negotiate on their own terms.

Nmecha has attracted interest from the Premier League, with Newcastle United among the clubs linked with the 26-year-old. His physical presence, technical ability and experience in German football have helped establish him as an attractive option for teams looking to strengthen their midfield.

The contract reportedly includes another release clause for the summer of 2028, when the fee would fall to €70 million if Nmecha remains at Dortmund.

That reduction could become significant if the midfielder stays for another season, potentially giving interested clubs a more affordable route to signing him. However, it would also mean Dortmund could face a lower guaranteed fee in the longer term.

The club therefore have an incentive to understand their options well before the next summer window opens, particularly if interest from England and elsewhere develops into concrete approaches.

For potential suitors, the reported deadline is equally important. Any club seeking to secure Nmecha for €80 million would need to make its decision before the end of June 2027.

No transfer has been confirmed, and the reported figures remain dependent on the terms described by Sport Bild. For now, Nmecha remains a Dortmund player, with his release clause likely to be a major factor in any future negotiations.
