Dani Carvajal has promised to give Getafe everything until the end of the season, insisting that his move from Real Madrid was driven by the chance to keep playing and by what suited his family.

The right-back was presented by Getafe alongside sporting director Toni Muñoz after signing as a free agent. His contract runs until the end of the campaign, and he said there is no release clause that would allow him to leave early.

“Anyone who knows me even a little knows my commitment is total, whether I’m playing for Madrid, here or making an omelette,” Carvajal said.

“This isn’t the contract of my life, and I haven’t had to make any sacrifice to choose Getafe. Everything has fallen into place. I want to compete, and this is a project that suits me.”

The 34-year-old confirmed he had turned down more attractive offers, including opportunities to play in the Champions League. His decision, he explained, was shaped by his wife and children and the circumstances of his career after a difficult period with injuries.

“When my contract ended, my head was telling me I needed a change, to go abroad, but the right conditions weren’t there,” he said. “As the summer went on, anyone who knows me understands that my life is football. After these injuries, I was desperate to find myself again.”

Carvajal added that he was not looking beyond his first match with Getafe, which was scheduled to be against Rayo Vallecano. Asked about the prospect of facing Real Madrid, he said his immediate priority was getting back on the pitch.

He also admitted that the reaction to his arrival had surprised him. “At Madrid you live in the shadow of the biggest stars, even if you are the club’s second-most decorated player and its most decorated academy graduate,” he said. “I didn’t expect this level of excitement. I’m delighted; I come home with a huge smile. The messages from the fans have given me a real lift.”

Carvajal praised coach José Bordalås, saying they shared an understanding of the game and describing him as an experienced manager who demands a lot from his players.

The defender has not ruled out returning to Spain’s national team if his performances warrant it. He said he had discussed the possibility with his wife and would not declare that he would never wear the shirt again.

Getafe’s move required work to fit within LaLiga’s registration rules, with club president Ángel Torres providing a guarantee to help complete the deal. Carvajal said the process was complicated, but the important thing was that he now had the chance to play regularly again.
