Rashford, 28, is on a season-long loan at Barcelona, who hold a €30 million option to buy the England international. The clause must be triggered by 15 June, and United have made clear they will not renegotiate the terms regardless of any attempt by Barcelona to lower the fee or defer payment.
"There's decisions to be made on certain things, and obviously Marcus is in that situation," Carrick said. "But at this point in time, nothing's been decided. It will be, because it has to be at a certain point, but at this stage, there's nothing to say."
"Whoever's here, I want to work with, and help them improve. At the moment, it's this squad of players. There's obviously players on loan, and whatever happens with that later on will happen. But certainly, as a coach, and leader of a squad, we want to get the best out of everyone."
Barcelona's appetite for a permanent deal has cooled after Rashford's form dipped in 2026. The Spanish club has reportedly missed an earlier option deadline in March and is now reluctant to pay the full fee, though United's position remains firm. Rashford has scored seven goals and provided 11 assists in 24 appearances during his loan spell.
Rashford still has two years left on a lucrative contract at Old Trafford, and his salary will rise by 25 per cent next season if United qualify for the Champions League. With Casemiro leaving in the summer, he would become the club's highest earner. Minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has been pushing to reduce top-level wages at the club.
Carrick is a former team-mate and coach of Rashford and managed United for three games in 2021 following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's dismissal. Rashford is expected to be part of Thomas Tuchel's England squad for the World Cup this summer.
