AC Milan have officially confirmed the appointment of Ruben Amorim as their new head coach, succeeding Massimiliano Allegri.

Club owner Gerry Cardinale spoke to Milan's official channels following the announcement, outlining the thinking behind the decision to bring in the Portuguese coach.

"We've been following Ruben for years. His journey at Sporting was extraordinary and reflects exactly the style of play we are looking for. He's one of the most prepared and innovative coaches of the new European generation: young, ambitious, with a clear footballing identity and a well-defined tactical approach."

Cardinale went on to explain what convinced the club's hierarchy that Amorim was the right appointment.

"Ruben believes in attacking, high-intensity football. His philosophy fits perfectly with our vision, and his leadership qualities, combined with his ability to develop players, have impressed us deeply. We believe in him and are thrilled to welcome him to the Club."

Milan's statement confirmed that Amorim has been entrusted with the technical guidance of the men's first team, ending a process that follows a disappointing season which led to a wider technical reset at the club.

Amorim began his coaching career in 2018 after ending his playing days, during which he represented Belenenses, Benfica and the Portuguese national team.

Following spells in charge of Casa Pia and Braga, he took over at Sporting in 2020, beginning a cycle defined by a strong footballing identity, innovation and the development of young players.

That period delivered two Portuguese league titles, two league cups and a Portuguese Super Cup before Amorim moved on to manage Manchester United.

Throughout his career, Amorim has developed a modern, attacking tactical approach built on solid organisational structure, with a particular ability to nurture young talent and guide their development.

Amorim also addressed the move directly, reflecting on what the opportunity means to him personally.

"There are ambitions that stay with you throughout your career and, for me, coaching Milan has always been one of them. I know exactly what this club represents: history, prestige and an extraordinary fanbase around the world. It's a challenge I take on with pride and enthusiasm, fully aware of what these colours mean. I can't wait to get started and to live every day with the passion that drives Milan."

Milan's statement closed by extending a welcome to Amorim and his coaching staff as they begin preparations for the new season.
