Calvert-Lewin and Ampadu hail Leeds after Burnley victory at Elland Road

Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Ethan Ampadu both spoke of their pride after Leeds United beat Burnley 3-1 at Elland Road on Friday to move nine points clear of the relegation zone.

The win for Leeds United was comfortable in the end. Anton Stach's eighth-minute long-range strike set the tone, Noah Okafor added a second seven minutes after the interval, and Calvert-Lewin turned home a rebound within minutes to effectively end the contest. Loum Tchaouna's late strike for Burnley was the only blot on the evening.

Calvert-Lewin, who scored his 12th goal of the season and also had a key role in the second with a clever backheel to set up Okafor, reflected on a dominant team performance.

"It's an unbelievable feeling. Coming into the game we wanted to start with a lot of intensity, which I think we did, particularly leading from the front high up the pitch. We executed the game plan really well. They are coming here with nothing to lose, that can be dangerous sometimes, but I'm pleased and proud of how we performed."

He acknowledged the disappointment of last weekend's FA Cup semi-final defeat to Chelsea but said the focus quickly shifted.

"It was disappointing at the weekend to not get the result we were hoping for, but the mood in camp has been good, fully focused on getting the job done tonight. I think you could see that from the start."

On his instinctive finish for the third: "It's just anticipation. There have been a few of these occasions in the box recently where it drops for you and sometimes it doesn't. As a number nine that is where you've got to come alive. You have to work on the 'what ifs' and I was there, first to react to the ball."

Captain Ethan Ampadu was equally upbeat, pointing to the significance of the result.

"We're delighted. I said before the game that we've not managed to beat Burnley and we wanted a bit of revenge and get to 43 points. We like to think we've put ourselves in a strong position with three games left."

The Wales international also had a message for the supporters who filled Elland Road on a bank holiday Friday.

"We wanted to give them a bank holiday weekend to enjoy. We had the disappointment last weekend. Hopefully, three more good results."

On Daniel Farke's role in the run: "He gives everyone the confidence and the licence to go and play with freedom. We're well prepared for the games and that puts us in a great position."

Leeds travel to Tottenham Hotspur on 11 May, knowing a point would seal their Premier League status.
