According to Sport and confirmed by Marca, the former midfielder visited the club's training complex on Wednesday with the aim of beginning a period of work experience alongside the coaching staff of Barça Atlètic, a first step in his development as a coach. For now, it remains only a possibility that is being considered rather than a formal arrangement.
Busquets' intention is to begin gaining day-to-day experience, observing working methods, planning, dressing-room management and tactical development up close.
His aim is to complete his coaching education before eventually making the step into management himself, with the former international not yet holding the licence required to work as a first-team head coach. The idea is for him to build experience within the environment he knows best, having spent almost his entire playing career there.
Before his visit to the training complex, Busquets was in New Jersey last Sunday to watch the World Cup final in person, in which Spain beat Argentina thanks to a Ferran Torres goal in extra time.
Busquets hung up his boots last December, bringing an end to a trophy-laden career that culminated in an MLS Cup triumph with Inter Miami. Having won numerous honours during his time at Barcelona, the Badia del Vallès-born midfielder now wants to begin a new chapter with his sights set on the dugout.
Should the arrangement go ahead, it would mark Busquets' first involvement with Barcelona since leaving the club in 2023 to join Inter Miami alongside former team-mates Lionel Messi and Jordi Alba. His time in Miami brought further silverware, including the Leagues Cup and Supporters' Shield, before he and Alba signed off with an MLS Cup win in December.
A move into coaching has long been considered a natural next step for Busquets, regarded during his playing days as one of the most tactically astute midfielders of his generation.
