Brozovic had been a key figure for Inter for the best part of a decade, joining the club in the summer of 2016 as one of Serie A's most reliable deep-lying midfielders, before an eventual switch to Saudi Arabia's Al Nassr in 2023.
By the time he left the San Siro, the Croatian midfielder had made 330 competitive appearances for the club, contributing 31 goals and 43 assists across seven seasons of consistent, high-level performances.
His contract at Al Nassr expired earlier this summer, leaving the 33-year-old a free agent on the open market ever since that point. Speculation had linked him with a possible move to Real Madrid, though nothing ever materialised, while Lazio were also floated as a potential destination without a move to a major European league ultimately coming together, leaving him without a club at all for the start of this new season.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Brozovic has now reached an agreement with Qatari club Al Sadd on a one-year deal, with the option of a further season, ending his search for a new club without a return to Europe's top flight, several months after his previous contract in Saudi Arabia came to an end.
Brozovic remains an established figure for Croatia's national team, having scored seven goals in 99 international appearances over the course of his career, and played a leading role in the country's run to the World Cup final in 2018 and third place in 2022, cementing his status as one of the most accomplished midfielders of his generation for the national side.
His move continues a familiar pattern in recent years of experienced European midfielders in their thirties opting for lucrative contracts in the Gulf once their careers at the highest level in Europe begin to wind down.
At Inter, Brozovic won two Serie A titles, two Coppa Italia trophies and two Supercoppa Italiana titles, and was a key figure in the side that reached the Champions League final in 2023, losing to Manchester City.
