According to transfer journalist Nicolò Schira, the Bundesliga champions have made contact over Igor Thiago and initiated discussions about a possible deal, with the Brazilian identified as a potential understudy and long-term successor to Harry Kane following Nicolas Jackson's return to Chelsea after his loan spell in Munich.
Thiago arrived at the Gtech Community Stadium from Club Brugge in the summer of 2024 and quickly became indispensable, scoring 22 goals and adding an assist in 38 league appearances last season to help Brentford finish ninth in the Premier League.
He signed a contract running to 2031, with the club holding an option to extend it a further year, and reports had already linked Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham with approaches before Brentford made clear this summer that the striker was not for sale.
Bayern Munich's move represents a fresh and unexpected complication to that stance, though nothing suggests Brentford's position has shifted: the length of Thiago's contract alone gives them significant leverage in resisting any offer that falls short of their valuation.
Elsewhere at the club, defender Benjamin Arthur has left on a season-long loan to Portsmouth, giving the 20-year-old regular Championship football after a temporary stint at Celtic last term, where he made six appearances as Martin O'Neill's side completed the league and Scottish Cup double.
A product of Peterborough United's academy, Arthur has made three senior appearances for Brentford since his promotion to the first team and has represented England up to Under-20 level.
Pompey boss John Mousinho was enthusiastic about the addition to his backline.
"We're thrilled to bring Benjamin here for the season to boost our defensive ranks. He possesses all the attributes you expect of a centre-back and is also more than comfortable with the ball at his feet," Mousinho said. "Despite his relatively young age, he already has experience of top-flight football, and we feel he can be a real asset as we look to progress in our third season in the Championship."
