Shakhtar have been unable to play at their home stadium in Ukraine since Russia's invasion and have staged their European matches at neutral venues across the continent.
Last season their home games were split between Ljubljana in Slovenia and Kraków in Poland. For 2026-27 they have entered the Champions League league phase directly following a procedural move — they initially qualified for the third qualifying round but were elevated after Paris Saint-Germain, having already secured league phase entry by winning Ligue 1, vacated a spot further up the draw.
A Shakhtar official confirmed negotiations are ongoing.
"Shakhtar is currently negotiating with several venues in the United Kingdom and Germany in order to secure a host stadium for its UEFA Champions League matches next season. We will not comment on the process until a decision is announced in the near future."
The Gtech Community Stadium meets UEFA's requirements for hosting Champions League matches. UEFA is understood to have no objection to the arrangement provided local authorities in the London Borough of Hounslow grant the necessary approvals.
For Brentford, the commercial case is straightforward. The club routinely hires out the stadium for non-England international friendly matches and seven-a-side tournaments, and regards the revenue stream as a meaningful part of its financial model.
Shakhtar have maintained their position as one of Ukraine's leading clubs throughout the war, continuing to participate in European competition and keeping their squad together despite extraordinary disruption.
A stable London base for the group stage would give them greater logistical consistency than splitting their home calendar across two cities as they did last season.
