Bayern seal €55m Brown deal as Man United and Arsenal miss out

Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich have agreed a deal to sign left-back Nathaniel Brown from Eintracht Frankfurt for €55 million, fending off interest from Manchester United and Arsenal to secure the Germany international on a five-year contract until 2031.

Sky Germany and Fabrizio Romano both confirmed the agreement on Thursday. Brown had already settled personal terms with Bayern weeks ago and made clear throughout the process that the Allianz Arena was his only destination. The fee came in below the €60 million Eintracht Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krösche had been demanding, representing a significant win for Bayern Munich's negotiating team.

Brown, 22, scored four goals and provided four assists in 33 Bundesliga appearances for Frankfurt this season before making his World Cup debut for Germany and scoring in their 5-1 win over Curaçao in the group stage.

The combination of domestic form and international breakthrough accelerated both the interest from rival clubs and Bayern's determination to close the deal before a bidding war developed.

Nürnberg, who sold Brown to Frankfurt in January 2024, hold a 12.5 percent sell-on clause. At €55 million, that entitles them to approximately €7 million — a substantial windfall for a second-division club and a measure of how rapidly Brown's value has risen since leaving their academy.

The deal resolves one of Bayern's most pressing positional needs. Alphonso Davies remains at the club but has attracted speculation over his future following injury disruptions, and bringing in Brown provides a viable long-term successor at left-back.

Brown will complete the formalities once Germany's World Cup involvement concludes. Bayern's summer spending now includes Brown at €55 million and PSV Eindhoven's Ismael Saibari at a similar figure — a combined outlay of around €110 million on two players aged 22 and 25. The message is clear: the German champions are rebuilding with youth and are prepared to pay premiums to get the right profiles.
