Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool and Real Madrid have all registered interest in Nmecha, according to Sport Bild. The former City academy product has started both of Germany's opening group matches and scored once, with his displays accelerating the level of attention surrounding his future.
Borussia Dortmund have no desire to sell. Sporting director Ole Book made the club's position clear before the tournament: "Felix will also play for us next season — that is the clear plan."
Nmecha signed a new contract in March, tying him to the Bundesliga club until 2030. There is no active release clause this summer; one kicks in at €80 million from 2027, dropping to €70 million in 2028.
That contractual position gives Dortmund leverage, and they intend to use it. The club would reportedly consider offers in excess of €100 million this summer — a figure that reflects both his value and their reluctance.
Nmecha was born in Hamburg and joined Manchester City's academy as a teenager before leaving on a free transfer in 2021. He spent two seasons at Wolfsburg before joining Dortmund for around €30 million in 2023. Last season he scored six goals and contributed three assists across 47 competitive appearances.
City's interest carries a particular dimension. Sporting director Hugo Viana is rebuilding the club's midfield following recent departures, and Nmecha's familiarity with the City Football Group environment makes him an attractive option beyond the purely footballing argument.
The World Cup has made Nmecha more expensive. It has not made Dortmund any more eager to sell.
For City, United, Liverpool and Real Madrid, the calculation is whether to pay a premium now or wait for the release clause to activate. For Dortmund, the calculation is simpler: the player stays, unless someone makes it impossible to say no.
