Bayern Munich teenager Osmani is facing a significant decision over his international future after receiving an invitation to represent Kosovo in the upcoming Nations League fixtures, according to Bild.
The 17-year-old midfielder, who has featured exclusively for Germany's youth teams to date, has been called up by Kosovo for matches against Ireland on 24 September and Austria on 27 September, as reported by Transfermarkt. While Osmani has not yet made a final decision on his allegiance, the invitation signals growing momentum behind a potential switch.
The situation was brought into sharper focus last week when Dr. Faruk Ajeti, Kosovo's ambassador to Germany and Denmark, posted on Instagram showing him presenting Osmani with a Kosovan passport.
Ajeti claimed the Bayern talent had already committed to the Balkan nation, writing: "It is a special honour that I was able to hand over the passport of the Republic to our Bayern talent Erblin Osmani today and announce great news for Kosovan football: Erblin will play for Kosovo."
Osmani was born in Munich to Kosovan Albanian parents from Gjilan and has been part of Bayern's academy since 2017. He made his senior debut in March at the age of 16, coming on as a substitute for Leon Goretzka in an 87th-minute appearance during a 4-0 Bundesliga win over Union Berlin. That three-minute cameo made him Bayern's second-youngest Bundesliga player ever, behind only Paul Wanner.
In July he signed a long-term contract extension running until 2029, with the deal converting to a professional agreement when he turns 18 in May 2027. He has been compared to Joshua Kimmich within the club for his reading of the game and positional intelligence, and captained Bayern's Under-17 side before stepping up to the U19 level.
His most recent international appearances came in January, when he earned two caps for Germany's Under-17 side. Should he accept the Kosovo call-up and feature in either of the September fixtures, he would be permanently tied to the nation under FIFA eligibility rules.
Germany's new national team coach Jürgen Klopp is expected to name his first squad soon, though at 17 Osmani would be an outside bet for a senior call-up even if he opted to remain with the DFB setup. The allure of guaranteed playing time at international level with Kosovo may prove decisive as he weighs up his options.
