Saibari has made a reasonable start since his move from PSV Eindhoven this summer, contributing two assists in four official appearances for the Bundesliga champions. But Hamann, speaking on Sky Sports Germany, was unconvinced the Moroccan attacker offers Bayern the versatility the club has promoted since his arrival.
"Ismael Saibari is a wonderful footballer, but he's too slow. Not only is he not fast, he's like a bad Kane. Kane isn't the fastest, and now his backup isn't the fastest either," Hamann said.
"They say Saibari can play four positions; I say he can play exactly one: behind Kane, because out wide he's too slow." The former Liverpool and Bayern midfielder argued Serge Gnabry remains a clearly superior option for Bayern in the number 10 role.
Hamann's broader complaint centred on Bayern's summer business as a whole, arguing the club had not strengthened significantly despite a busy window. He pointed to the departures of Nicolas Jackson, Leon Goretzka and Raphaël Guerreiro, players who between them contributed more than 100 appearances and over 25 goals last season, as losses that outweighed the additions of Saibari and Nathaniel Brown, both signed for fees in the region of €50 million.
"I wasn't the biggest fan of Jackson, but we really miss his pace," Hamann said, adding that doubts remain over Alphonso Davies's return from injury and over Jamal Musiala's recent fitness issues.
The criticism followed a goalless draw with newly promoted Schalke 04, in which Bayern lost top spot in the Bundesliga for the first time in 67 matchdays despite dominating possession. Saibari started that match ahead of Kane but was withdrawn after 57 minutes having struggled to find space between the lines, a performance that fuelled Hamann's argument that Bayern's attacking options look shallower than last season regardless of the money spent.
Head coach Vincent Kompany has continued to rotate his forward options across the opening weeks of the campaign, with Kane, Michael Olise and Saibari all featuring in various combinations as Bayern search for the right balance ahead of a demanding run of fixtures across the Bundesliga and Champions League.
