Barcelona have drawn up a list of five midfield targets to monitor ahead of the summer window.

Attacking midfielders Ibrahim Maza of Bayer Leverkusen and Lennart Karl of Bayern Munich are heading a group that also includes Kees Smit of AZ Alkmaar, Lewis Miley of Newcastle United and Rodrigo Mora of FC Porto.

Mundo Deportivo reports that Barcelona's scouting department has been tracking all five players and the club's technical leadership is weighing up when to make initial formal moves.

Maza, 20, is the most advanced profile on the list. The Algeria international completed a strong season at Leverkusen, contracted until 2030, and will use the World Cup as a final showcase of his capabilities to clubs across Europe. His creativity, dribbling ability and goals-from-midfield profile align with the technical demands Hansi Flick places on his number tens.

Karl, 18, is the most disrupted of the targets. The Bayern forward suffered a muscle injury that ruled him out of Germany's World Cup squad โ€” a setback that prevents him from adding to his value in North America but also means he is available for discussions without the post-tournament premium that strong performances would generate. Barcelona regard the injury as a short-term complication rather than a deterrent.

Smit, 20, has had a productive season at AZ and has represented the Netherlands at youth level. Miley, also 20, is an established starter at Newcastle whose technical quality and pressing intensity have drawn admiration from multiple clubs. Mora, 19, is progressing through Porto's academy and regarded as one of Iberian football's most promising organising midfielders.
