Barcelona sporting director Deco has dismissed suggestions the club could move for Manchester United teenager JJ Gabriel amid uncertainty over his Old Trafford future.
Gabriel, 15, has been linked with several leading European clubs after telling Manchester United earlier this month that he wanted to leave the club. Barcelona and Real Madrid have been among those connected with the youngster, who was recently in Spain.
The speculation prompted questions for Deco during a press conference, but Barcelona's sporting director insisted the Catalan club was not involved.
"There's nothing to say about this boy," Deco said.
"It's normal we always have players linked with us. There's a huge market for that, even when they are young.
"We are not interested in any player in his situation. I'm not sure what's happening, and if he's still a Manchester United player. We are not involved in that."
Deco also stressed that Barcelona would not look to become involved without first understanding the circumstances surrounding Gabriel's situation.
"First of all, we need to understand how the situation is before we try to do something.
"To speak about young, teenage players, it is not our business."
Gabriel has not trained with United since scoring a hat-trick on his UEFA Youth League debut against Leverkusen on September 10. His future has become increasingly uncertain after he requested to leave Old Trafford, although United have been reluctant to release him from his current registration.
Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich have also been linked with the teenager.
Gabriel turns 16 on October 6 and his potential eligibility for an EU passport could have implications for any move abroad. His father is a former Republic of Ireland international, while his mother has Greek-Cypriot heritage.
Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has previously urged people to be careful over the amount of attention being placed on the teenager.
For now, however, Deco has made Barcelona's position clear: despite the club being repeatedly linked with Gabriel, he says they are not involved in the situation.
