Bailey's agent, Craig Butler, has confirmed the 29-year-old is negotiating with multiple clubs, despite newly promoted Hull City's manager, Sergej Jakirovic, describing a move to his Premier League side as "off" earlier this week.
"If I need to beg somebody to join us, to play for Hull City in the Premier League, then it is better to stay and don't come," Jakirovic told BBC Radio Humberside.
"Because if you don't feel this club, that you can help us and sacrifice for the team - not just Leon Bailey but in general - then it is better to stay in your club and we will try and find somebody else."
Butler told the Jamaica Observer in response: “We’re in the middle of negotiations with several clubs, and we’re looking at our options.
“Hull is a very good club and are very interested, but we have details that have to be worked out.”
Butler's comments suggest the Hull move is not entirely dead despite that public rebuke.
Aston Villa want to move Bailey on permanently after his loan spell at Roma was cut short midway through last season, though he remained part of Unai Emery's squad through the run-in as Villa secured a top-four Premier League finish and won the Europa League. With his future now expected to lie away from Villa Park, the question is simply which club completes the move before the window closes, with Butler's continued involvement in talks across multiple clubs suggesting a resolution may not be immediate.
Iling-Junior's departure is more straightforward.
The 22-year-old has not made a competitive appearance for Villa since arriving from Juventus in June 2024, having instead spent the intervening period on loan in the Championship with Middlesbrough and West Brom. He is Bolton's ninth signing of the summer.
"I spoke to the manager and he understood my journey. That is what attracted me here, to take the next step in my career," the former England Under-21 international told the club website. Bolton, promoted via the League One play-offs last season, begin their Championship campaign at home to Preston on Saturday.
