The teenager turned 17 this week. The scholarship, confirmed via the Premier League's retained list, ties him to Hale End and makes him eligible for a first professional contract if the club chooses to offer one.
Gabriel has been building quietly within the academy structure. He made his Under-17 debut in October 2025 in the Premier League Cup against Watford before progressing to the Under-18s setup. His first appearance at that level came as an unused substitute against Ipswich Town in February, with his actual debut following in April when he came off the bench against Reading in a U18 Premier League fixture.
He is a winger by trade. He previously accompanied the first team to a pre-season training camp in the United States at the age of 14, though he did not participate in sessions and watched from the sidelines.
The retained list also confirmed seven departures from Arsenal's development structure. Harrison Dudziak, Seb Ferdinand, Cam'ron Ismail, Will Lannin-Sweet, Josh Nichols, Sam Chapman and Sam Onyekachukwu have all left the club.
Goalkeeper Alexei Rojas, who spent eight years at the club, was offered a new contract but announced he will be leaving. His departure comes as a separate decision from the standard end-of-contract releases.
The academy is also undergoing structural change above the playing level. Under-21s head coach Max Porter left Hale End this week to join Stoke City as assistant manager.
Arsenal's retained list sits within the context of a club coming off their most successful season in years โ Premier League champions, Champions League finalists, and a Mikel Arteta who signed a new contract extension. The pipeline that underpins that success is being maintained regardless of the names at the top of the billing.
The youngest Arteta in the building has his scholarship. What happens next is down to him.
