The 22-year-old Spain youth international is reportedly also being monitored by Barcelona, creating the possibility of a battle for his signature if Sporting decide to listen to offers.
According to Correio da Manhã, Arsenal have entered the race for Fresneda after previously being linked with the defender. Barcelona have also been associated with the player, although the Portuguese club are understood to want to retain him.
Fresneda joined Sporting after developing in Spain and has established himself as an option at right-back in Portugal. He has made 89 appearances for the Lisbon club, scoring four goals and providing four assists.
His situation has attracted attention at a time when Arsenal are continuing to build depth in defence. The Premier League club strengthened their back line during the summer and also completed the permanent signing of Piero Hincapié after his loan spell from Bayer Leverkusen.
Injuries have nevertheless created additional demands on Arsenal’s defensive resources, which could explain the renewed interest in Fresneda.
The Spaniard remains under contract with Sporting until the summer of 2028, leaving the Portuguese club in a relatively strong negotiating position. Reports suggest Sporting would prefer to keep the defender and are hoping to secure an extension.
Fresneda has also moved closer to senior international football. He has been called into Spain’s squad during the current Nations League campaign but is yet to make his debut.
That international involvement adds another layer to his development, although his immediate future is likely to depend on his club situation.
Arsenal’s interest would give Fresneda another potential route to the Premier League, while Barcelona’s reported involvement would provide a competing option in Spain.
For Sporting, the priority appears to be retaining a defender who remains under contract for another two seasons and has already accumulated significant first-team experience.
Whether Arsenal turn their reported interest into a formal approach remains to be seen, but Fresneda’s profile has continued to rise as he establishes himself in Portugal and edges closer to senior international football.
