Arsenal are prepared to sell Christian Nørgaard this summer, ending a stay at the Emirates Stadium that lasted just one season and brought the Danish midfielder a grand total of 56 minutes of Premier League football.

The Times reported this week that Arsenal are open to offers for Nørgaard, 32, who joined from Brentford last summer for around £13 million as a replacement for Thomas Partey and a depth option behind Martin Zubimendi. He made 19 appearances in all competitions but featured so infrequently in the league that his Premier League involvement barely registered as a contribution.

Head coach Mikel Arteta has praised Nørgaard's attitude throughout — calling his preparation "immaculate" and describing him as someone who makes "all of us better every single day." Despite that, Arteta has not trusted him with meaningful minutes, and with the emergence of 19-year-old Myles Lewis-Skelly as a genuine midfield option, Nørgaard's route into the lineup has become even more congested.

Nørgaard this week announced his retirement from international football for Denmark, a move widely read as a signal that he is mapping out the later stages of his career rather than waiting indefinitely on the bench.

Ajax were linked with a January move that never materialised, and the Dutch club's interest is expected to be revived this summer. Brentford, where Nørgaard served as captain under Thomas Frank for several seasons, have been mentioned as a possible destination.

His contract at Arsenal runs until June 2027 with an option for an additional year, giving the club negotiating leverage. Whether they can recoup anything close to the £13 million they paid for him remains the central question.
