Speaking to RAC1's "Tu DirĂĄs" programme, the England international admitted he initially struggled to believe Barcelona's interest was genuine when the move materialised in the summer. Barça paid Newcastle United âŹ70 million for Gordon, making him the first signing of the club's rebuilt squad under Hansi Flick.
"At the start, I didn't believe that Barça wanted me," Gordon told host Aleix Parisé. "When Flick called me, I really started to get emotional. Anyone could have called me, I would have come all the same."
The 25-year-old, who grew up idolising Pep Guardiola's Barcelona side, said the pull of the club went back to his earliest memories.
"I've thought about that since I was five or six years old," he said. "That was the best team I've ever seen. They were the best team. I wanted to play for the best team."
Gordon, previously an outspoken admirer of José Mourinho before his switch to Catalonia, has quickly established himself as one of the more eye-catching performers in Flick's rebuilt side, with his directness and work rate down the left flank standing out early on.
"I've done pretty well, but I can definitely do more, and I want to do more," he said, reflecting on the reception he has received from Barcelona's demanding supporters. "For a crowd that has cheered players like Messi, Ronaldinho, Xavi or Iniesta to now chant my name is something I'm hugely grateful for."
Gordon set his sights firmly on silverware, declaring himself ready to do "whatever it takes" to win every trophy available to Barcelona this season.
"I think the main quality of this team is that we find a solution in every situation in the game," he said. "So whatever the other team does, I think we can find a solution. I think we had an incredible start to the season - and if I said I expected us to score five goals in as many games, that wouldn't be true."
Asked to explain the variety within Barcelona's forward line, Gordon pointed to the contrasting qualities in attack.
"We have different characteristics. We have two number 10s, FermĂn and Dani Olmo, who are completely different... Lamine can play in any position, Raphinha is a different profile. Karim and I. We have a couple of different midfielders too - we can unlock any defence."
Gordon also revealed he has begun learning Catalan, having already had three lessons.
"I can say bon dia, bona nit, molt bé, com va, and visca el Barça," he said. "I learned it phrase by phrase."
Gordon singled out Pedri as the player who has impressed him most since arriving at Camp Nou.
"Pedri is the best. I think the best footballers are the ones who make everything look easy. He has spectacular technical quality. It's like he dances with the ball," he said, praising the humility within a dressing room full of stars. "The players who play at this level are the best in the world in their positions, and you'd never think it when you meet them. Everyone is so humble."
