Once his signing is finalised, the forward will immediately join up with Hansi Flick's squad for pre-season training, though his official presentation will have to wait until next week. Borussia Dortmund had already granted Adeyemi permission to skip the start of their own pre-season, which began last Sunday, in order to finalise his switch to Catalonia.
With the paperwork close to being finalised and the agreement between the two clubs fully settled, Adeyemi is due to travel to Barcelona in the coming hours to become the club's second signing of the summer, following the arrival of Anthony Gordon, which was confirmed at the end of May.
The agreement between the two clubs was sealed verbally last Friday, with Barcelona set to pay a fixed fee of €22m, potentially rising by a further €7m in variables largely tied to winning trophies. Since then, only the usual administrative processes and final exchange of paperwork have remained outstanding before the forward could travel.
Adeyemi is expected to land in the Catalan capital on Wednesday and undergo the standard medical examinations on Thursday. Once he has passed that test, Barcelona will confirm the signing and the player will sign his contract with the club before immediately joining first-team training under Flick, who knows the forward well from his time in German football, having given Adeyemi his senior Germany debut.
The move gives Flick another attacking option to work with from the start of pre-season preparations. Barcelona's squad completed their first training session of the 2026-27 campaign on Tuesday, with the German coach beginning to lay the groundwork for the season ahead even as the Adeyemi deal continues to be finalised in the background.
The 24-year-old spent four seasons at Dortmund after joining from Red Bull Salzburg, establishing himself as a regular in attack for the German club.
