AC Milan have completed the signing of Mario Gila from Lazio, with the Spanish centre-back putting pen to paper on a contract running until 30 June 2031 after four seasons in Rome.

AC Milan confirmed the move in an official statement, revealing Gila will wear the number 34 shirt.

The deal is worth โ‚ฌ25million plus a further โ‚ฌ5million in bonuses, though Lazio will only keep half of that fee, with Real Madrid entitled to 50 per cent under the terms of the deal that took Gila to the Stadio Olimpico in 2022. Gila will earn a reported โ‚ฌ4.5million per season over the five-year contract.

Born in Barcelona in August 2000, Gila came through Real Madrid's academy and made his first-team debut during the 2021/22 season, winning the LaLiga title, before moving to Lazio, where he made 120 appearances and scored twice across four years, establishing himself as a reliable and increasingly influential figure in Serie A and European competition.

He won his first Spain under-21 cap in September 2022, was capped three times at the 2023 European Under-21 Championship, and received his first senior Spain call-up in 2025.

Speaking to Sky Sport after leaving Milan's headquarters following the signing, Gila expressed his satisfaction with the move.

"I'm very happy," he said. "Has the club backed me strongly? Yes, now I need to repay that. I expect to do a lot of good things โ€” with the squad we have, we'll get them done."

Gila also revealed he had already spoken with new head coach Ruben Amorim ahead of the move.

"I've already spoken with coach Ruben Amorim and I'm very happy to share the dressing room with him," he said, before sending a message to Milan's supporters: "A big hello to everyone and forza Milan! Let's go all out this year."

Before departing for Milan, Gila bid an emotional farewell to Lazio in a video posted on the club's channels.

"You deserve everything," he said. "I thank the fans, team-mates, coaches and the people who work both inside and outside the dressing room. I arrived as a young lad who had just experienced the feeling of being a professional. Here I found people and situations that made me who I am now. Forza Lazio, always."

Lazio confirmed the departure in their own statement, thanking Gila for his contribution and wishing him well for the future.
