Nós Diario reports that the 24-year-old Bayern Munich loanee has grown disillusioned with his spell in Italy, where he was effectively frozen out of AS Roma's plans in the second half of the season, making only six competitive appearances. Roma have confirmed they will not exercise the purchase option included in the loan contract.
The contrast with his first loan spell at Celta Vigo is stark. Zaragoza had been a consistent presence in the starting eleven at Balaídos, featuring regularly in both La Liga and the Europa League before his arrangement was cut short to facilitate the Roma deal. Celta were willing to release him mid-season, but the abrupt departure has left the player with a sense that the move was premature.
Celta, who finished sixth in La Liga and are actively searching for a new winger, are open to his return — but only on terms significantly more favourable than those agreed last summer.
The Spanish club invested considerable money in the first loan and have made clear they are not prepared to repeat that level of commitment. If an agreement on reduced terms can be reached with Bayern, Celta would welcome him back.
Zaragoza has made three international appearances for Spain. His long-term future will likely be determined at Bayern before preseason.
