Saliba suffered the injury after playing for France at the World Cup and there had been concerns that he could require a procedure. Thankfully for Arsenal, surgery was avoided.
The 25-year-old's absence has forced Mikel Arteta to turn to Cristhian Mosquera and summer signing Ezri Konsa in central defence.
Mosquera won all three of the matches he started before Konsa's arrival, while the former Aston Villa defender remained unbeaten until Arsenal's 3-0 defeat at Brighton.
Arteta had previously warned that Saliba's recovery would take time and that the club needed to respect the healing process.
βWe don't really know the amount of weeks he's going to be out because it's about a healing process and everything is a bit different β we know we have to respect certain timings,β Arteta said.
βThe progression has been really positive in the last few weeks, but we need to wait and see how that one reacts when we start to put some load into it.β
There is now some indication of when Arsenal could have their first-choice defender back.
RMC Sport's Fabrice Hawkins reports that Saliba could return to competitive action in December if his recovery continues to progress well.
That would mean the France international missing Arsenal's matches throughout October and November, including major fixtures against Liverpool, Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City.
Even a December return could come too soon for Arsenal's meetings with Tottenham Hotspur and Real Madrid.
For now, the priority remains allowing Saliba's back injury to heal properly before he increases his workload and begins the final stages of his return.
