The 19-year-old attacking midfielder joined Werder Bremen from the Under-19s of VfL Wolfsburg during the summer and has since been integrated into the club’s senior setup.
Reports in Turkey have claimed Besiktas are considering a move for Soylu during the winter transfer window, but Werder sporting director Clemens Fritz has firmly rejected the possibility of a departure.
“Darwin leaving in the winter is not an issue for us,” Fritz told DeichStube.
Werder are instead focused on continuing the youngster’s development after he made a strong impression during his first months at the club.
Soylu has yet to make his Bundesliga debut, but he has been gaining senior experience with Werder’s Under-23 side in the Regionalliga Nord.
The left-footed midfielder has already registered five assists in eight league appearances, strengthening his claims for greater involvement with the first team.
Fritz believes Soylu could soon be considered for a place in Daniel Thioune’s Bundesliga squad if his progress continues.
“If he continues to develop like this, squad nominations for the Bundesliga are absolutely conceivable,” the Werder sporting director said.
Fritz has also been impressed by the way Soylu approaches the game, particularly his desire to move the ball forwards.
“We are very satisfied with Darwin. His first thought with the ball is always directed forwards. He is a footballer who gets a lot from his technical ability,” he said.
The Werder chief did identify areas where the teenager still needs to improve, particularly his intensity and decision-making.
Soylu’s arrival from Wolfsburg was viewed as an investment in Werder’s future, with the club keen to give him time to adapt to senior football rather than rushing him into the Bundesliga.
That approach now appears to be paying off, with his performances for the Under-23s bringing him closer to a first-team opportunity.
Besiktas may therefore have to wait if they intend to pursue the midfielder, with Werder making clear that they regard Soylu as an important part of their plans.
The teenager’s immediate objective is now to continue developing in Bremen and earn his first Bundesliga appearance.
