Real Madrid have several issues to resolve this summer, with Jose Mourinho set to arrive as head coach this weekend and the club continuing to work on departures involving players such as Eduardo Camavinga and Raul Asencio.

Those exits have dominated headlines at Valdebebas in recent days, but another situation is drawing growing attention even if it carries less short-term urgency: the contract stand-off with Vinicius Junior. According to Ramon Alvarez de Mon's programme, the 25-year-old forward has a deal running until 2027, and negotiations over an extension continue with the two sides still some distance apart.

Real Madrid have offered an annual salary of โ‚ฌ20m, while Vinicius' representatives are seeking closer to โ‚ฌ30m. Talks are set to continue, with both parties leaving room for an agreement to eventually be reached, but tension is understandably rising the longer the situation drags on. Vinicius is due back at the club on 28 July following his holiday, by which point the two sides may be under greater pressure to find common ground.

The stakes are significant for both parties. Real Madrid are wary of allowing Vinicius to enter the final year of his contract without progress, given the risk of losing one of the world's best players for nothing if talks stall completely, while the forward's camp continues to push for a salary closer to that of team-mate Kylian Mbappe.

Mourinho's arrival, and his backing for Vinicius as a key part of his squad, is seen internally as a factor that could help unlock progress once he formally takes charge this weekend.

Club president Florentino Perez, who has personally handled much of the negotiation given his close relationship with the player, has repeatedly said in public that he wants Vinicius to stay at the Bernabeu for the long term.

Vinicius' camp has also reportedly sought a renewal bonus as part of any new deal, a request Real Madrid have so far resisted as they look to protect the club's broader wage structure.

Links to the Premier League, Bayern Munich and Saudi Arabia have persisted throughout the impasse, though those close to the player continue to insist his preference remains to stay in the Spanish capital if the numbers can eventually be made to work.
