The 31-year-old defender has been at Aston Villa since September 2025 and made 28 appearances across all competitions this season, including 17 in the Premier League. He contributed to the club's Europa League triumph — and has already established himself as a reliable option for manager Unai Emery at both centre-back and right-back.
Speaking to Fotbollskanalen, Nilsson Lindelöf was direct about his domestic intentions.
"I would say I'm closing the door on that. I don't see myself going home to Allsvenskan to play. I've never played there, so it would be fun — but if I know myself properly I don't think it's possible."
His contract at Villa Park runs until the summer of 2027, with an option for a further year, meaning any post-Villa move remains some way off. His professional journey began in Swedish football's second tier at Västerås SK — the last time he played in Sweden was in 2012 — before a progression through Benfica and then Manchester United, where he spent eight seasons before his Villa move.
Nilsson Lindelöf is part of Sweden's World Cup squad. The Blågult open their campaign against Tunisia on June 15, with the Netherlands and Japan also in their group. Before the tournament begins, Sweden will play warm-up fixtures against Norway and Greece in early June.
