The former Juventus and Ajax goalkeeper was speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport ahead of the Italian club's Europa League meeting with AZ Alkmaar, and suggested Van Dijk could be an attractive option for the Bianconeri if he leaves Liverpool at the end of his contract.
"He's a rock for Liverpool and Holland," Van der Sar said.
"If he decided to leave the Reds as a free agent, he would be a defender with plenty still to give a club like Juventus."
Van Dijk's experience and leadership would represent an obvious attraction for Juventus, who have been looking to strengthen their squad after an underwhelming campaign.
Van der Sar admitted that seeing the Italian giants only slightly above the middle of the Serie A table was surprising, although he believes their recent victory over Napoli could provide a confidence boost.
"Seeing them just above the middle of the table is a little strange," he said. "But the victory over Napoli will have given them confidence.
"It's not easy playing every three days, but the Europa League isn't the Champions League."
The Dutchman also believes the competition represents an opportunity for Juventus to restore their standing in European football after several difficult seasons.
"It's a great opportunity for Juventus: it's a chance to re-establish themselves at international level after so many years," he said.
"Juventus have the history and the spirit to triumph in the Europa League."
Van der Sar knows the club well, having spent two seasons in Turin between 1999 and 2001 before moving to Fulham.
His recommendation carries the perspective of someone who experienced the expectations and pressures of playing for Juventus, and he believes Van Dijk could bring valuable qualities to the club.
