Valencia have opened up their recruitment search to new and unusual markets this summer, with the club already working on a deal for Tokyo FC's Sato before two further targets emerged this weekend.
According to Super Deporte, Valencia have identified two additional targets to strengthen their squad: Malian forward Dieng, 28, who would arrive from Egyptian club Al Ahly, and Dutch defender De Haas, 26, of Portuguese side Famalicao.
Sato's move, reported earlier in the week, already represented an unexpected and somewhat exotic addition for the Mestalla club, with Valencia's recruitment department clearly broadening its scouting horizons beyond the more conventional European leagues this summer.
Dieng and De Haas would add further international variety to that approach, with Valencia evidently prepared to look across multiple continents in search of value signings capable of strengthening the squad ahead of next season.
Dieng's spell at Al Ahly has established him as an experienced option for Valencia's forward line, with his time in Egyptian football following a varied career across several leagues outside Europe's traditional power bases. De Haas, meanwhile, would bring Portuguese top-flight experience to a Valencia defence the club's hierarchy clearly feel needs reinforcing this summer.
The breadth of Valencia's search reflects a club working with a constrained budget but determined to find value wherever it can be found, whether that means Japan, Mali via Egypt, or the Netherlands via Portugal. Whether any of the three targets ultimately complete a move to Mestalla will become clearer as the summer window progresses.
None of the three deals appear close to completion at this stage, with Valencia still working through the early stages of due diligence on each target before any formal approach is made to their respective clubs.
