Hoeness, Guardiola and former Bayern Munich chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge have maintained a close relationship since the Spaniard's time in Munich, and the three were together at the meeting.
Speaking to Bild, Hoeness confirmed the dinner after reports of the gathering emerged.
“It is true that we met. Pep, Karl-Heinz and I are connected by a deep friendship. We had a wonderful evening,” Hoeness said.
Hoeness’s wife Susi and Rummenigge’s wife Martina also attended the meeting.
Current Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany had reportedly been invited but was unable to attend.
The presence of Guardiola naturally attracted attention given his history with Bayern and his current availability. The former Barcelona and Manchester City manager has been without a club since leaving City at the end of the previous season.
Guardiola coached Bayern between 2013 and 2016, winning three consecutive Bundesliga titles and two German Cups during his time in Munich. He left the club after three seasons and was replaced by Carlo Ancelotti.
Despite Guardiola’s availability, the meeting does not indicate that Bayern are preparing a coaching change.
Kompany remains in charge, and his reported invitation to the gathering provides an important piece of context. Rather than suggesting a meeting between Bayern officials and a potential replacement for the current coach, the evening involved figures who have maintained a relationship with Guardiola since his time at the club.
Hoeneß remains closely connected to Bayern as the club’s honorary president and a member of its supervisory board. Rummenigge also sits on the supervisory board after stepping down as chief executive.
Their relationship with Guardiola has continued long after the Spaniard left Munich.
Guardiola’s three-year spell at Bayern remains one of the most significant periods of his coaching career. Although he did not deliver the Champions League title the club hoped for, Bayern dominated domestically during his tenure and developed a distinctive possession-based style under the Catalan coach.
His subsequent success at Manchester City further strengthened his reputation and eventually led to another period of sustained domestic dominance.
With Guardiola currently without a club, any meeting involving Bayern figures was always likely to generate speculation.
Hoeness’s comments, however, frame Monday’s gathering differently: as an evening between friends who have remained close since Guardiola’s years in Munich.
Kompany’s reported invitation also underlines that the current Bayern coach was not being excluded from the occasion. His absence was attributed to his inability to attend, rather than any indication that the club is preparing to replace him.
