Trabzonspor submit new loan offer for Onana as Man United brace for permanent exit

Trabzonspor have submitted a formal offer to Manchester United to extend André Onana's loan deal for a second season, with the Turkish Super Lig club also making a direct approach to the goalkeeper's camp with attractive financial terms.

Onana's original loan, agreed in September 2025, contained no purchase clause, meaning he will return to Old Trafford when the arrangement expires at the end of June. United signed Belgium goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp as his permanent replacement and have no intention of restoring him to the first team. Lammens was the undisputed number one throughout a season in which United qualified for the Champions League.

Onana kept six clean sheets in 33 appearances for Trabzonspor and ended his loan with a Turkish Cup winner's medal, keeping a clean sheet in the final.

The club's president, Ertuğrul Doğan, had already stated publicly this month that they wanted to retain him: "Onana's career is already established. We like him. We want him to stay. The final decision will be Onana's."

According to Turkish outlet Fotomaç, both Manchester United and Onana have now received formal proposals. The offer to the player includes terms described as "very attractive." Onana has asked for time to consider his position and is expected to announce a decision shortly.

United paid £47 million to sign Onana from Inter Milan in the summer of 2023. Two difficult seasons at Old Trafford, marked by high-profile errors, led to the loan exit. The club's preference is to sell permanently, but their valuation — reported by Trabzonspor's vice-president to be in the range of €45 to €50 million — is far beyond what the Turkish club can offer. A second loan, funded by Onana's full wages, represents the compromise most likely to satisfy all parties.

If Onana declines the Trabzonspor offer, the Turkish club have confirmed they will pursue a domestic goalkeeper alternative and redirect the freed-up foreign player slot elsewhere. Onana himself has not yet committed to a second stint in Turkey and the outcome of his deliberations will determine the next chapter of a career that remains in search of a stable footing.
