The Brazilian forward remains under contract until June 2027, but ESPN Brazil journalist Bruno Andrade reports that Tottenham have told his representatives they will help find a solution when the January transfer window opens.
Richarlison will therefore be able to leave Tottenham before the end of his current contract rather than waiting until the summer to move as a free agent.
“Tottenham have told his representatives that they’ll facilitate his departure,” Andrade said. “He won’t need to sign a pre-contract and then wait until June to leave for free.”
A pre-contract remains an option for Richarlison and could give him additional leverage over Tottenham if he wants to negotiate a January move, but the club have indicated that they do not intend to force him to remain until the end of the season.
Tottenham also have a unilateral option to extend Richarlison’s contract by another year, but that will not be activated.
“Tottenham have already informed his representatives that they won’t trigger the automatic extension option,” Andrade said. “Tottenham could do that to create a bigger battle, but they won’t.”
That decision removes another potential complication from a relationship that has deteriorated significantly.
Richarlison’s camp had also explored ways of terminating his Tottenham contract, including an agreement between the two parties or a claim for termination for just cause. Neither route will now be pursued.
“The attempt to terminate the contract for just cause, or even by mutual agreement, is dead. Both possibilities are dead,” Andrade said.
He added that Tottenham’s legal department and Richarlison’s representatives had concluded there were insufficient grounds to take either case forward.
The result is that Richarlison is expected to remain at Tottenham until January before seeking a conventional transfer. Turkey, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are among the markets that could provide options, although no destination has been agreed.
A return to Brazil is also not currently a priority for the 29-year-old. Vasco da Gama, Palmeiras and Fluminense have been linked with the forward, but Andrade says none are being considered for January.
Richarlison has been left out of Tottenham’s Premier League squad this season after pushing for a move away during the summer. The club rejected approaches from Shabab Al Ahli before the transfer window closed, leaving the forward training without being used in competitive action.
The latest decision means Tottenham are now preparing for an exit rather than attempting to prolong the dispute. Richarlison’s contract situation should therefore become one of the more significant transfer stories when the January window opens.
