Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed the stance on Wednesday, writing on X: "Sandro Tonali, not planning to return to Italy this summer despite reports as he's ready to stay in Premier League. Tonali is on top PL clubs shortlist and he's keen on staying in England at the highest level."
Tonali's agent Pepe Riso has made no secret of his client's growing profile.
"Exactly, that was the aim, and it's only natural that he's on their radar," Riso said recently. "That was the aim and the vision when we made the decision to move to Newcastle, for Sandro to become an exceptional player and the most valuable Italian player."
Romano has separately acknowledged that cost remains the central obstacle for any potential buyer, particularly Manchester United.
"Man Utd had Sandro Tonali as a top target one year ago, but it was too expensive. Now the feeling is still that this deal is expensive. It's too expensive. It's complicated," he said on his YouTube channel.
United have already made contact with Tonali's representatives to understand pricing, and Arsenal have also made similar enquiries.
Newcastle United are not desperate to sell. Head coach Eddie Howe said last month: "The person that matters the most is Sandro. I see him totally committed. He's here for the team, not for himself. Forget the noise around him, he's just fully committed."
Tonali is contracted until 2029 with an option for a further year. Newcastle paid ยฃ55 million to sign him from AC Milan in 2023, making him the most expensive Italian player in history at the time, and would expect to recoup at least that figure.
